Exposure

The Exposure series investigates the tension between anonymity and exposure through hand coloured black and white photographs disrupted by burned circles.

Each image begins as a nude portrait taken in my studio. It is personal and intimate. The photograph is coloured by hand and then subjected to an act of erasure.

The circular burns pierce the surface, concealing faces while revealing the fragility of identity. A new background introduces abstract beauty against the violence of the destruction.

In obscuring the subject, the work asks the viewer to confront their own gaze and the boundaries between visibility, vulnerability, and disappearance for queer men.

All works measure 43 x 43 cm and are permanently mounted on MDF.
