Exposure

The Exposure series investigates the tension between anonymity and exposure through hand-painted black and white photographs disrupted by burned circles. Each image begins as a nude portrait taken in my studio. It is personal, intimate. It then undergoes hand coloring and then an act of erasure. The circular burns pierce the surface, concealing faces while revealing the fragility of identity. The replacement background reintroduces abstract beauty that counters the violence of destruction. In obscuring the subject, the work invites viewers to confront their own gaze and the boundaries between visibility, vulnerability, and disappearance for queer men. All works are 43cmx43cm, permanently mounted on MDF.
