Intimate Studies
Intimate Studies grows from Exposure and turns towards queer sexuality.
Each work begins with a black and white photograph of a nude man. The image is coloured red by hand, mounted on a 30 x 30 cm wood panel, and altered so that the genitals are obscured or removed.
The series draws from the culture of alternate accounts, private nude photographs, and anonymous sexual images exchanged between queer men.
These images contain a contradiction. They are made to expose the body, yet identity is often carefully protected.
The work stays inside that contradiction.
Concealment does not remove desire. It changes it. What is absent becomes as important as what is shown.
Photographs by Martin Hojny, taken in our London studio.
